About Thomas Smith
Founder & Lead Inspector
At InspectShield, our mission is simple: provide thorough inspections with clear, easy-to-understand reports so you can move forward with confidence. I'm a Tennessee state licensed home inspector, InterNACHI certified, and hold certifications in both radon and mold testing. Over the past year, I've completed approximately 100 home inspections, giving me hands-on experience evaluating a wide range of properties.
Before starting InspectShield, I spent four years as a quality control inspector in the precast, prestressed concrete industry, where I was responsible for inspecting products both before and after the pour. That role required attention to detail, consistency, and a strong understanding of structural integrity — skills that directly carry over into home inspections.
Prior to that, I worked for 24 years as a maintenance mechanic on high-speed packaging equipment. That experience sharpened my ability to identify issues, understand how systems function together, and recognize when something isn't performing as it should.
I'm also proud to be an Army veteran, where I developed discipline, accountability, and a commitment to doing the job right. My approach is straightforward: I provide a thorough inspection, explain findings clearly, and focus on helping you understand what matters most — without unnecessary alarm.
Outside of work, I'm a father of three daughters and a grandfather to three grandchildren, with one more on the way. Family is important to me, and I understand how significant the decision to buy a home is. I look forward to working with you and helping you move forward with confidence.
